Epsom Downs caused a major cup upset this weekend, with a hard fought and well deserved win over seasoned Premier Division opponents, Grunwald FC.
The Downs went into the game short on 1st team players, but the squad players who stepped in put in a superb 90minutes of graft and earned the right for 2st team recollection with this Goliath performance.
Goals from young centre back Darren Chalke and midfield dynamo Mark Bickell, earned Epsom a place in their 2nd Cup Semi Final since their founding.
Awaiting them in the semi’s are Premier League side Dee’s or 1st Division outlet Purley, neither of whom have really shone in their league’s.
Manager James Baker says it would be “ amazing “ if The Downs were to reach a Cup Final.
“ We’ve worked hard this season, our league position doesn’t reflect our performances by any means. Sunday was especially good as everyone put the miles in and got their deserved reward. Its an extraordinary feat and to reach a final would be amazing. “
The Downs would likely face Premier League champions and formidable outlet Sutton Athletic, should they dispose of Dee’s or Purley in the next round.
