Former Epsom Downs gaffer Andrew Baker, has spoken of his desire to return to Epsom Downs as Manager.
Baker had a stint as Epsom Downs manager from 2005 to 2007, but after the birth of his son William he decided to step down and hand the reigns over to the now player managers, James Baker and Michael Holland.
Since then management has been somewhat of a question mark and the team have never set a managerial role to one person. In the 2006/2007 season Epsom earned promotion in what has been by far their best season to date, under the managerial eyes of James Baker. Mellberg took the role as he was out through injury and done a sterling job. This year however The Swede has started to get back into the game and made several appearances for The Downs in a bid to earn back his once guaranteed place.
This year, Mellberg, Alex Maynard and Dutch have all had influences on team selection.
This caused a fair amount of debate over the season and could be part of the reason for The Downs lack of success in the league.
The news of a potential return from Andrew Baker will excite the players and fans of Epsom Downs, who all know that the potential for success is there with the current crop of stars. Finding the right bond between the players is the key and something they will look to work on over the summer.
Baker spoke to the clubs official website yesterday :
" I've had a chat with the boys, i want to make it clear though that i haven't made any decision as of yet, but i have agreed to participate in Summer Training. This is also to regain some fitness for myself because as you can see, i have let myself go a bit. "
" I wont unfortunately be present at the End of Season Bash, as its my wife's Birthday, and i promised her i'd go balls deep on her arsehole as a present. I have sent my apologies to the board. "
More will follow on this story as the news comes in.
