Epsom Downs have recently agreed terms with MDSFL Division 8 outlet Cheam Park Athletic FC, to become Epsom Downs Reserves as of the 08/09 season.
A hostile takeover was avoided when Stuart Duncan and Michael Holland met with the current Manager of Cheam Park Athletic, Jamie Bramwell.
Initial views on a takeover were taken in offence and the clubs were at war for the early part of the season.
Since then though the takeover has moved on a long way and terms and conditions have been agreed. A final confirmation meeting between the two parties has been scheduled for May at the clubs annual 'End of Season Bash', which EDFCR are formally invited to.
Holland spoke with local journalists about the takeover, outside the clubs training ground in Ditton just yesterday :
" We're delighted. We've always looked to expand the club and Cheam park have given us this opportunity. They've had an up and down season, in the early parts they struggled for players but from what i can gather, they seem to have 13 to 14 regulars every week now which is excellent. Our plan is to work hard together over the summer and share our expertise and experiences, as well as the odd player here and there. "
When asked what formality eventually sealed the deal, Chairman Stuart Duncan had one answer :
" Sausages! Definitely the fact that on home games, they'll get some sausages and rolls after the match. And beer. "
Initial talks with Ditton about a second reserves squad were met with eager anticipation, and hopes are high for both teams to ply their trade at the coveted Long Ditton Rec.
